Education & Outreach

Volunteers with the SIDS Alliance of Northern California partner with the California SIDS Program and local Public Health Nurses and SIDS Coordinators to educate the community and health care professionals about reducing the risk of SIDS and about proper procedures and protocols when a baby dies of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.  For more information about SIDS training, please contact us at info@sidsnc.org

"Back to Sleep" Campaign

SIDS: Back to Sleep

The Back to Sleep campaign is  named for its recommendation to place healthy babies on their backs to sleep. Placing babies on their backs to sleep reduces the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), also known as "crib death." This campaign has been successful in promoting infant back sleeping to parents, family members, child care providers, health professionals, and all other caregivers of infants.

This campaign is sponsored by the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the SIDS Alliance, and the Association of SIDS and Infant Mortality Programs.  For more information, please visit NICHD.

California:  SIDS Laws and Protocols

The State of California has a wide variety of laws related to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.  There are also protocols in place for Public Health Nursing, for autopsy and death scene procedures, and for coroners.  For more information, please visit the website of the California SIDS Program.

Partnering with Local Public Health Agencies

The SIDS Alliance of Northern California is proud to partner with Public Health Nurses from counties throughout Northern California.  Recently, we provided funding to the Solano County Public Health Department  to assist in producing a SIDS risk reduction brochure, entitled "Your Baby Matters"
